Robert Schumann

Robert Schumann (1810 - 1856) was a German clasical composer and pianist. He was married to Clara who was also an accomplished pianist and for whom he wrote many of his compositions including his popular Piano Concerto in A minor.

It was the only piano concerto that he finished and I have chosen the Intermezzo: Andantino grazioso as this was one of the first pieces I learnt to play on the piano at the tender age of seven!
The track below is of Jorge Bolet playing it with the Berlin Rado Symphony Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Chailly.
Here is the full concerto played by Yuja Wang with the Vienna Symphony conducted by Lorenzo Viotti.

Schumann's piano concerto is often compared with Edvard Grieg's work in the same key and you will find this on my Grieg page.
